The city of Szeged

Szeged – the 3rd largest city in Hungary – is the educational, scientific and cultural centre of the Southern Great Plain. The University of Szeged, the Biological Research Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the new ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) Laser Research Centre; the National Theatre, Museums, Galleries and also health and wellness spas with great water experiences are very famous in this city. It is also often called as the “City of Sunshine”, where more than 160.000 inhabitants, 20.000 national and international students live and enjoy the pleasant sub-mediterranean climate.
Szeged is known as the capital of „Alföld”, the Great Hungarian Plain. Szeged, the Csongrád county seat, is the largest city of South-East Hungary with a population of 162,000. It lies at the confluence of the Tisza and Maros rivers, at a distance of 170 km from Budapest, close to the Serbian and Romanian borders.
